"EAST - WEST OPEN" (IMAC)
ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA
APRIL 18TH - 20TH, 2008
Welcome to the Martial Arts Olympics "East-West Open" which will be held in April, 2008 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Formerly known as the
International Martial Arts Festival "Sports Russia"
the event now in its seventeenth year history has surpassed all expectations.
In April, 2007, the newly named Martial Arts Olympics 'East-West Open" hosted over 6,500 participants from over 20 countries, with an additional 16,000 spectators during
this 3 day competition. Due to the magnitude and growth of the festival, the organizers,
including Professor Nickolai V. Smirnov founder of IMAC (International Martial Arts College have deemed this is truly Olympics at its best and have changed the name to reflect this. The name "East-West" unites both the eastern culture of the Martial Arts
which now has a strong foothold in the west and the great city on Neva, uniting Europe and Asia, thus "East-West". Today as the threat of wars loom over our civilization due to different ethnics and cultures, we, the Martial Artists can unite to end this by
sports competition as our only means of opposition. The Martial Arts Olympics "East-West Open" will follow the tradition of the festival. The parade of thousands for opening ceremonies will be followed by a colorful Budo show. The floor will consist of 25 areas of competition space ( carpets, tatami, platforms, rings and dodyangs). There is something for all at the "East-West Open". Participants will have the opportumity to perform in karate, free-style, u-shu, savat, taekwondo, kobudo, knife throwing, kumdo,
Greco-Roman wrestling, and grappling. The official medal with its logo of the globe surrounded by a black belt is a symbol of spiritual perfection and skill, uniting people of good will and will proudly awarded to the winners of each competition. We are grateful to our brothers and sisters in the Martial Arts who have supported this endeavor in the past and are looking forward to sustaining these friendships and making new one at the Martial Arts Olympics "East-West Open"!
